Getting started
How does Inky work?
Your child taps the big red button and says what they'd like to colour, for example “a tractor with a cow on top”. Inky checks the request, draws a black-and-white colouring page and shows it in a few seconds. Tap Print it! to send it to your printer.
Where are the grown-ups' settings?
Tap the settings button on the home screen and answer a quick times-table question. That's where you'll find your child's age, the page shape and paper size, pages left, purchases and Clear my pages.
Which age should I pick?
The age setting changes how detailed the pages are: 2–4 gives big, simple shapes with thick lines, 5–7 adds a bit more going on, and 8+ gives detailed scenes. You can change it at any time.
Inky didn't understand my child
Speech recognition works best in a quiet room with the device fairly close. Short requests work well. If Inky keeps mishearing, check the app's language matches the language your child speaks: Inky speaks English, German and French, and follows your device's language settings.
The Speak button doesn't work
Inky needs permission to use the microphone and speech recognition. Go to Settings › Inky on your device and turn both on. To protect your child's privacy, Inky only recognises speech on the device itself, so it needs a device that supports on-device speech recognition for your language.
Printing
How do I print a page?
Tap Print it! and choose your printer. Inky prints with AirPrint, which works with most home printers on the same Wi-Fi network. Pick A4 or US Letter in the grown-ups' settings so pages fill the paper properly.
My printer doesn't show up
Make sure the printer is on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad. If it still doesn't appear, check that it supports AirPrint (most printers made in the last ten years do), or try restarting the printer and the router.
Can I print a page again later?
Yes. Every page is kept in My pages on the device. Open it and print as many times as you like: printing again doesn't use another page.
Pages and purchases
How many free pages do we get?
3 free pages to start, then a new free page every week. The weekly page doesn't build up, so use it before the next one arrives.
What's the difference between a subscription and a page pack?
A subscription gives 60 pages every month for as long as it's active. A page pack is a one-off purchase of extra pages that never run out. If you have both, your monthly pages are used first and pack pages last.
We didn't like a page. Can Inky try again?
Yes. Tap Again and Inky draws a new version of the same idea, once, for free. And if a page ever fails to draw, the page you spent comes back automatically.
I bought something but don't see my pages
Pages usually appear within a few seconds, but it can take a minute or two. If they still haven't arrived, open the grown-ups' settings and tap Restore purchases. If you're using Ask to Buy, the pages arrive once the purchase has been approved.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Inky. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews. You keep your monthly pages until the end of the period you've paid for.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We're happy to help if you get stuck.
Does it work on more than one device?
Each device has its own pages. A subscription works on one device at a time: to move it to a new iPhone or iPad, install Inky there, open the grown-ups' settings and tap Restore purchases. Page packs stay on the device they were bought on.
Safety and privacy
Why did Inky suggest something different?
Inky checks every request before drawing. If something isn't suitable for young children (scary, violent, unkind or grown-up), Inky suggests a friendly alternative. It also draws original pictures instead of characters from films, TV and games, so “a famous mouse” might become a fun mouse of Inky's own.
Is my child's voice recorded?
No. Speech is turned into text on the device and the audio is never sent anywhere or kept. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we keep and for how long.
How do I delete our pages and data?
To delete pages from the device, open the grown-ups' settings and tap Clear my pages. To delete everything we hold on our server too, email hello@sayinky.com and we'll take care of it.
Still stuck?
Email hello@sayinky.com. Tell us what happened, which device you're using, and roughly when, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can, usually within two working days.
